Banner Estrella researchers have made significant contributions to the research of a wide range of areas, including: Genetics Genetics research at Banner Estrella can be traced back to the first discoveries made in our laboratories, including the gene therapy that was first performed by Dr. Mark Tabor at Banner in the 1980s. Our research program involves the most aggressive genetic engineering currently being performed in Banner. We have identified a variety of genes that are involved in the pathogenesis of melanomas and other skin cancers. We also are working to identify gene mutation that can improve the immune response to melanoma. Clinical Trials We are involved in more than 200 clinical trials nationwide, and we have been a leader in conducting research on more than 150 experimental drugs that are in clinical trials or have been granted marketing authorization. Furthermore, we have conducted more than 1,500 gene therapy studies and more than 20 clinical trials to provide the latest medical treatments. Furthermore, we also perform basic research to determine how cells differentiate, how cells respond to external stimuli, how to grow and differentiate new cell types, and much more in vitro and in vivo.
