Schools' performance on the Arts in Schools Report, with an explanation of each key finding, is available from the Arts Division at (614) 288.4094. School leaders need to know that the Arts in Schools Report is a tool for them, helping them to make informed decisions as they establish and improve upon their programs. The Arts in Schools Report is the first national evaluation of schools' arts programs, and a first step for school leaders when thinking about how to make arts education more effective. The reporting of data in each Annual Arts in Schools Report enables arts experts to compare schools' performance against national trends, and to identify areas underperforming their arts programs. It also enables a school leader to develop a school's arts program by helping them to address key gaps in arts education, and identify areas for improvement. 1. How and when did school begin to report data from their Arts in Schools assessments? Data for the Arts in Schools survey was provided by every state for the school year. Schools that completed their assessment prior to the school year, or prior to reporting of data and subsequent analyses, have been excluded from this report. 2. Where can this data be found? This report includes data from all public schools where Arts in Schools were reported by students, parents, or both, during the school year. The report provides estimates on the characteristics of students who participated in the survey. This report also includes estimates on the number of schools who reported the arts, with an explanation of every key finding, and the number of schools whose arts program was evaluated and reported in this report. Schools may report more than one category of data in their Annual Arts in Schools Reports. For example, teachers may report information on Arts in Schools program data, and schools may report on both Arts in Schools data and school-level data on academic achievement and student learning. Schools can report data only for their school district. Schools can report data only for the district in which they are based. Schools can report no more than four categories of data in their Annual Arts in Schools Reports. Schools can also only report data for their school district. 3. How is this report compiled? Schools receive a report as soon as an Arts in Schools survey is completed. To develop the report the data are compared to nationally representative survey data for the same student categories during the school year.
