The Faculty Learning Community at UCSB is a collaborative effort among a diverse group of faculty in biology and the other fields of science (biology and geology, earth and environmental sciences, applied or environmental sciences) as a component of the faculty-student collaborative learning project that takes place every summer. We are looking for individuals in a variety of fields, including but not limited to, biology, environmental science, geography and environmental studies and environmental policy, to help develop collaborative learning, including classroom and laboratory interactions, problem-solving, and research, all in collaboration with faculty members in other departments. The faculty member who will be your main advisor will assist you throughout your studies and help ensure that you have a successful time in which to complete your program. As a member of the Faculty Learning Community, you will have the opportunity to explore learning styles within a larger university with many departments and opportunities to interact with a diverse, undergraduate student population. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with fellow students and faculty members from other fields of science. The faculty members in the community are expected to work to achieve a common learning environment that meets the needs of faculty members and students from different field areas, both on and off campus. The faculty-student collaborative learning project is designed to facilitate and enhance a faculty member's teaching and research career. Applications for the Faculty Learning Community on Interdisciplinary Learning of the Sciences are open to all members of the UCSB faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. In the unlikely event that your candidacy is successful, you will be able to maintain your academic program and continue to receive support for your ongoing research and writing. Applications should be submitted electronically to the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs by April 30, 2006, and will be judged by a committee that will meet on May 1st.
