The radiocapititellular head (RC) is the large bone behind the elbow joint that is associated with the proximal elbow. The radial head (RH) is the smaller bone to the left of the RC and may also be a part of the ulnar side of the elbow as shown in Fig. 1-13. The forearm bones are arranged in a series of concentric rings and spiral, spiraling grooves from the proximal (i.e. radiocapititellular) joint to the distal (distal radiocapitatellal) or flexor side (fibular) joint 1 2. Bone healing from a broken hand The repair and rehabilitation of fractures occurs mainly through the application of mechanical stress to the bone. Bone healing occurs in at least two distinct phases of healing from breakage; both repair and rehabilitation require a combination of bone growth factor and a photostatic growth factor. The bone is an extremely dynamic, complex assemblage of cells that are in complete contact. Each cell is in continual movement and adaptation. The bone, as a living tissue, is the target of most of one's stress and that stress can be of many forms (pressure, friction/tension, etc.) The growth factors can either bind or loosen the bone, and help to facilitate the healing process of soft tissue wounds 2. The first phase of bone healing occurs between 20–40 min after blunt trauma (a break) 2. During this short period, the inflammatory response in the bone mobilizes the cells around the site of injury to promote the growth of new bone tissue. The second phase lasts 1–2 weeks following mechanical stress 2. The bone growth factor and photostatic factors, which were involved with this rapid wound healing, are both derived from the mast cells of the immune system (mast cells are immune system cells responsible for the body's defense against infectious agents. In the human forearm, bone grows within the soft tissue matrix, is broken into thin slices, and then grows into new bone, which may be called 'tissues' or 'fibers' in bone marrow or 'regions' in bone 3-4. With soft tissues, like tendons and ligaments, growth factors play a very important role in helping to keep the tissue's healing process going to the finish 5.
