It is my intention to report my reflections with regard to the recent events that led to the current Board and management crisis, and their implications for the institution as a whole. I urge the campus community to come together and keep this issue in perspective. I have the greatest regard for all of you, and I thank you for your continued support of the Gallaudet University family. This past weekend I sat with many colleagues from around the country in Florida at a conference attended by the incoming president, Dr. Mark Gallop. We discussed the challenges facing the University and the impact of these events on our students, our employees, and our campus community. It is true that the administration is working on a number of issues, and it is important that we focus on our shared goal of academic excellence. The Board is committed to maintaining the status quo, and as a result, the administration is moving toward a new set of policies and administrative procedures. The Board has made some important changes to these policies and procedures and has asked me to continue to work with them to continue the improvement process. The Board's primary focus remains on the positive impacts the current administration has had on all of us. The Board is aware that in the last few months, many of our alumni, donors, staff, Board members, and the public lost confidence with the Board and leadership of the university. This is not a new experience; it has happened before and will continue to happen on a regular basis. This has had important repercussions for our alumni, donors, trustees, students, and employees. It is our goal that the future will be more positive than this unfortunate, and painful, episode of Gallaudet history. In the event that the Board, the Board of Trustees, and the entire Gallaudet University community face even the slightest change in the future direction of Gallaudet, this new board would work diligently to regain and maintain our confidence and support. It is important to remember that while we may not agree with or support every course of action, we are proud to know President Dallas, Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, President Gallop, Chair of the Board, and Vice President for Research and Development and Academic Affairs. We are equally proud that the University community is represented by a broad spectrum of individuals with different backgrounds, perspectives, and perspectives on the impact of this time. The challenges facing the Gallaudet University have been ongoing, and they have had an impact on the entire University.
