Parents' Council: The JMA Parents' Council, established in 1999, is an informal advisory group consisting of parents, faculty, and staff members of the JMA. The JMA Parents' Council helps to promote the mission of the School and is made up of four subgroups which are: The JMA Mothers' Committee: The JMA Mothers Committee was established in 2001. Their purpose is to represent the interests, concerns, dreams, and dreams of all mothers of incoming JMA students and help them become fully immersed in the community of the Virginia Military Institute. The Parents' Council consists of an Executive Board and one other sub-group. The JMA Mothers' Committee, which is the official forum for parents of JMA families to be involved, and serve as a link between the parent students and the JMA community. The JMA Mothers Committee is composed, in addition to the officers of the JMA, of one member who serves as a member of the JMA Boards of Visitors; three members who have direct student access to the JMA Family Council; and one other member who has been designated by the student organization as a liaison to the JMA Faculty & Staff Council and who provides advice on family issues in general. These four members are the Presidents of the JMA Mothers' Committee and the other three are the Directors of each of the four sub-groups. As of the beginning of the 2000-01 academic year, there were two women who were members of the JMA Faculty & Staff Council. The remaining members (excluding the Presidents of the JMA Mothers Committee and the other members of the subgroup).
