Data Analysis Statement The CDS analysis has two parts: a survey of demographic data and a sample of data about respondent behavior (e.g., the degree to which respondents believe certain myths). The survey of survey questions is to be completed by the entire student body in the university. The student body at University of Rochester is not split for the survey of survey questions. Please note that the university does not retain personal identifying information. For example, to obtain the email address of any student, the student's name, address, etc., is required to complete the CDS online survey. Therefore, students are asked to supply only their initials and a “yes” for the corresponding survey question. The sample of data for the CDS analysis must be used by the CDS administrator to create a statistical model for estimating the responses to the survey of survey questions. This model must then be used to derive the percentage of respondents who believe certain myths. The university will make available only the unadjusted survey responses that have been modified to eliminate errors due to respondents' response bias. In addition, in the interest of full disclosure, some students may be asked to complete the survey of survey questions in private prior to participating in the CDS analysis. Please provide us a list or description of such students, including the names and institutions where those students are attending. Thank you. A.1. CDS Content Analysis Statement The CDS content analysis will not use the content of the survey of survey questions. Instead, the data from this section of the survey of survey questions will be used to construct a statistical model of student belief in certain myths. The data derived from this section will be used to infer the percentage of respondents who believe certain myths. For each of the 12 myth items in the survey of survey questions, a probability distribution of responses will be constructed that provides a reliable estimate of the percentage of respondents who believe that particular myth in each of the 3 question types. The probability distributions for each of the 3 question types will be produced. A.2. CDS Sample Statement The CDS sample will consist of approximately 3000 respondents. In addition, approximately 3000 University of Rochester undergraduates will be asked (via a postcard mailed to them) to complete the survey. Any respondent not responding via their University email address may be asked to complete in-person. There will be a response box where students may choose their personal response in the form of a letter, email or phone call. Respondents will not be asked to fill out the survey online.
