The course takes computer graphics and animation into account. It also includes 3D computer graphics and animation as it is used in business and entertainment. One of the strengths of this course is its integration of interactive 3D computer graphics and animation into the programming, problem-solving, and project planning phases of the course. This work will include both the introduction to the theory and the software for implementing this work, as well as the practical project. In particular, an animated program will teach the novice programming concepts and applications that are typically ignored. The animation is both an art project and a teaching aid. The software is presented in a non-uniform format that is easily converted into various computer formats. The software will be available under both a commercial license for the professional work, and a Creative Commons license that also includes an educational version. As usual, the course will be conducted on paper and in person in the classes and labs on campus. The course materials will be available for use electronically only. Introduction An animated 3D animation, such as that of Tilt Brush has three parts: texturing, painting the model, and placing the objects into the scene. Texturing: The texturing function creates the final image (which may be more than the object itself). The basic texturing is that part of the process that determines the surface information. The texturing function uses the parameters in the normal map, normal vector, and vertex positions of the model. For many applications, the basic form of the texturing function is the tiling function: a number is applied to each cell in the model to determine the area of the region to be tiled. For instance, if this function is applied on the image below, we have a picture of the upper limb of a deer: The tiling function works in this way: (1) The upper part is tiled with a number of smaller regions by calculating a triangle in the tiling table. The tiling function determines the number of “cells” that make up each of the smaller triangles. Each individual triangle is tiled with the number of cells in it. (2) One of the areas of the tiling table is selected as the top layer of the image. In this example, this is the left leg. The other areas with corresponding numbers are selected and are then tiled in layers to the right, top, and bottom.
