In addition, the bill lowers the corporate income tax rate from 35% to 28%. However, all of these tax breaks are scheduled to expire at the end of 2012. “A year ago, the president set out a plan and fought for it with our team, so it's great to see him get what he set out to do. This is a tax cut for families, a more stable financial future for our businesses and a fairer tax system that will provide more incentives for job creation,” says Brian Flag, Co-Founder of the National Taxpayers Union. “The Senate has passed a bill that's essentially the same as the House's, but the difference is that there are significant changes contained in the House bill which are worth more to the average American than the differences between the two chambers” states Brad Tussaud. The Tussaud Tax Center is the only national, independent tax policy organization that has been examining various tax laws, government rules, and government programs from the perspective of taxpayers on both the short and long-term. They have helped draft state income tax bills for each state since 1975. “There is still a ton of work to do, and we'll keep fighting. Our goal is to reduce tax rates across the board, which means we're advocating for the middle class, not the wealthy. The federal tax code is over-complicated, and the changes contained in this bill are critical. The average American has not kept pace with rising healthcare costs. The average family that pays 12,000 in federal taxes will see a 1,000 cut in their tax bill under this legislation. We're asking people to contact the House members who were cosponsoring this legislation so that they can join in the bipartisan efforts to make sure no American is left behind” says Bradley Tussaud. The president's Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act is the nation's first major tax cut since 1994. By doubling the standard deduction the bill creates about 800,000 more taxpayers. The legislation also re-establishes the earned income tax credit, providing a more generous incentive for lower-income individuals to work, while providing additional work incentives for children. “Most Americans can feel the squeeze on their paycheck and the cost of living is getting higher.
