The curriculum in the two-day workshop comprises lecture/discussion and hands-on lab skills training. Students receive intensive instruction in the treatment of children with motor speech disorders and speech in their first five years of life. The seminar/workshop is designed as a continuing education experience for speech-language pathologists. The cost is 1000 and includes transportation to and from the conference from the Mulligan, Ireland and is for Lists who have had experience working with children with a speech/language deficit, or speech/language pathology. The workshop is not for individuals who are not speech pathologists. There are five spots left this year. The program is limited to 12 Lists selected by invitation to the program. LST LOUD Training and Certification, Mulligan, Ireland A course in the theory behind the clinical practice of speech-language pathology using a variety of audio-teaching techniques. The course will examine and discuss the role of the speech motor system in the development of speech pathology, how speech motor treatment approaches can be applied to speech/cognition disorders, the different methods of speech articulation and the use of speech and reading assessment tools in the clinical assessment of patients. The course will include the development of a speech motor test, the presentation of a patient's speech/writing and reading test results and the identification of treatment goals for each patient. The entire program will be delivered simultaneously, with the patient being monitored throughout the therapy sessions. Prerequisite: LST LOUD Certification. The instructor is Dr. Mark McLaughlin. Dr. McLaughlin has specialized in the development, administration, performance and analysis of speech and reading tests for many years. He has held visiting academic appointments at the University of Washington, Seattle and University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Dr. McLaughlin has previously taught in England, Australia and New Zealand and was for more than 20 years the chair of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at Monash University.
