PRODUCT AND SPECIFICATIONS. 2. M. H. J. SUNBLOCK, Ph.D. EUGENE, OR LONDON, ENG. REVIEWS 1. The following is a review of human adiponectin assays with the use of human serum samples taken from patients with various different diseases or conditions. The assays have been used to determine the concentrations of adiponectin in body fluids, urine, feces and lymph (injection of plasma to the abdomen with a needle). The assays have been carried out on subjects having normal blood counts or hematological disorders and normal renal function. 2. In the presence of low amounts of endogenous insulin there appears to be an important decrease in the levels of the insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I). For this observation, the concentration of the IGF-I in the blood increased. This is a very interesting fact as the higher the endogenous insulin concentration the lower the amount of IGF-I there is in the blood. We would estimate that the amount of IGF-I in the blood is approximately two hundred times more and the amount in the circulation at any single time is many times larger than the amount in the blood. In the course of research in the field of nutrition, the level of insulin and IGF-I in the blood is of great interest. The amount of IGF-I was examined. It has been estimated that the body normally contains about 400 times more IGF-I than the total body. Therefore, in addition to the total body, it is clear that a large amount of body IGF-I is found naturally in the blood, although it normally exists in its lowest form in the liver and in the spleen. The amount of insulin and of IGF-I in the blood can be determined by the analysis of serum samples. The concentrations of insulin and IGF-I in the plasma of a subject with no insulin resistance showed a decrease for three days, then one week, then two weeks without change. After the third week, insulin and IGF-I levels increased in three to five percent of the subjects. The following table shows the values of the concentration of the insulin and the IGF-I in the plasma. [SUMMARY] TABLE I. Insulin and IGF-I Concentrations in the Plasma of Subjects with Insulin Resistance Insulin Concentration IGF-I Concentration 0-13 days 0.
