During this time, BIT offered an array of professional development opportunities and seminars to more than 200 alumni, who enjoyed the experience of meeting other alumni. This was particularly interesting for those who, like current BIT Alumni President Ron VanDerHegen, had graduated from BIT and found a career where he or she wasn't sure what the next step was. The alumni enjoyed meeting each other at the Open House and discussing what each of them is doing now and what they hope to make their careers. As for the Open House itself, it was held at the University of Utah's School of Communication on the campus of the school's Department of Theater and Dance. The event was organized by Ron's brother Mark VanDerHegen and the university, and a special thank you to the University of Utah Department of Communications for its dedication and hospitality. The evening featured an opening banquet, a luncheon, an evening performance of the hit musical “Cabaret,” and a panel discussion on the theme of “The Journey.” The event closed with an award ceremony in which BIT Alumni, current alumni and faculty spoke about what they see as the current priorities of BIT, as well as the future for BIT. A list of alumni from the past two months, including the winners of several awards, can be found below. As an added bonus, the winners of the prestigious “Singer of TED” award were also in attendance. Thank you to ALL the Past Awards winners! In addition, over 35 past fellows were among the nearly 200 people who attended. Special thanks go out to the faculty members and department chairs who had the time to share their perspectives on what is important and what BIT means to them today: Mike Shear, Dean, Department of Communication Themes and Programs, University of Utah. Greg Williams, Associate Dean, Communications, University of Utah. Mike Achene, Professor of Marketing; Chairman, Communications Department; President, University of Utah Extension. Ken Sorenson, Associate Professor, Marketing; Director, University of Utah Extension, Center for Applied Economics. Dr. Dan Schulz, President, University of Utah Extension, Center for Applied Economics. Larry Miller, Professor, Marketing; Director, University of Utah Extension, Center for Applied Economics. Chris R. Browning, Professor, Marketing; Director, University of Utah Extension, Center for Applied Economics. Jim Hooligan, Director, Communications, University of Utah.
