The ground was sampled once every four days between June and August 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on Sunday and public holidays, when sampling took place between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. There are 30 ground- and water-sampling zones, for a total of 20 zones sampled. This site has two water sampling sites, located along the main sampling area, and one, in the eastern quadrant of the site, that does not contain a sampling unit. Figure 1: Overview Map of the Area. Figure 2: Area Overview map Figure 3: Main Zones Figure 4: Upper and lower quadrant zones Figure 5: Upper and Lower Zones, Ground, and Water The ground-sampling zones extend along the ground between 2,000 and 10,000 feet in some locations. The water-sampling zones lie mostly in the watershed extending from a tributary of the North Branch of the North Fork of the Saginaw River east to the Saginaw River. The water-sampling zones do not contain any tributaries and the land is relatively level. The north, eastern, and southeastern quadrants are divided by an elevated dam on the Saginaw River, named the North Branch Dam, which is the primary route of the flow of both the main stem of the Saginaw and the North Branch of the Saginaw. A levee on the west bank of the Saginaw River and a dam upstream of the North Branch Dam divide the upper and lower quadrants. The upper and lower quadrants are divided by the dam, the North Branch Dam, which is approximately 3.6 miles downstream of the upper quadrant, and the North Branch Dam levee, which is approximately 1.5 miles downstream of the south side of the upper quadrant. The upper and lower zones are separated by a series of levees that act as barriers and are the only means to access the water in the upper quadrant; water from the water source is drained into the upper quadrant.
