An athlete must have competed or been eligible to compete within the preceding year for a recognized junior-level sport organization, or as an internationally competitive athlete. A junior athlete must have met a standard that allows for the adjudication of his/her physical and academic performance. The Junior Athlete of the Year does not represent the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (WNBA) or the Pan-American Organization of Wheelchair Basketball (NSA) in any way at this ceremony. A member of the national wheelchair basketball team must be a senior active member at the time he or she attends the awards program.
