The scholarship provides financial assistance as well as assistance with other activities to Manitoba s best and brightest. The program was launched on October 23, 2007. The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship has been granted for five years and the funds will be available from October 23, 2007, until October 30, 2007, for qualified Manitoba high school students who show academic aptitude and/or high interest in the Olympics. Eligibility: The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship is open to Manitoba High School Students (grades 9 to 12) attending a school in Manitoba or any other Canadian province or territory and, at the time of application, a minimum of 75% of the student s class will be eligible to apply for a Princess Royal Pan Am scholarship. All Manitoba applicants will be eligible for a scholarship regardless of their financial background. There is no minimum grade required to become eligible for the Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship. Eligibility is dependent on participation in the Pan Am Games, but all eligible students may compete and/or be selected if they demonstrate academic achievement and/or high interest in the Olympics. All qualified students will be selected for the Pan Am Games and will be awarded 100 per month. Application Procedures: All qualified applicants are invited to apply online, via a secure application portal on Sport Manitoba's website, by mail or online on a competitive basis. For the first year (2008/2009), applicants may take pride in knowing that for each applicant, there is over 4,000 worth of scholarships awarded over a five-year period which has been carefully selected for their academic, sporting and personal achievements. These are the most competitive and merit based scholarships currently in place in the Province and you will be among the first to receive your scholarship in November (2008). No preselection have been made in regard to the initial award of scholarships and all are based upon academic achievement, athletic ability, involvement, leadership and community service. The applications are due November 17, 2008, and only online applicants will be considered. Subsequent annual awards will be based upon academic performance, athletics ability, community service and/or extracurricular activity. Students will be notified of subsequent award numbers when applications are received.
