NATIONAL AFFILIATION COMMITTEE FOUNDED IN 1851, THE NATIONAL AFFILIATION COMMITTEE (NAC) oversees our national membership program and other activities which are in harmony with the national objectives of the NAC, and for such purposes assists NAC. Membership in NAC also gives members a voice in our affairs, including the selection of the new President of the NAC. The NAC comprises more than 4,000 officers and directors who have served on our Board of Directors for many years. POLICY MATTERS We are deeply concerned about the need to ensure that a National Board of Directors meets a minimum number of all the necessary elections, as established by statute. We are also concerned about the current shortage of qualified board nominees. This shortage of board nominees and other staffing needs is at least partially resulting from the NAC's inability to obtain adequate and appropriate board nominees during the past year, and the failure of current NAC members to act to eliminate this shortage. ELECTION The National Board of Directors election is conducted every four years in January or April, once every four years, generally in the last fourth calendar year after the year of election. The NAC Board of Directors selects an Acting President when the existing Board cannot be counted upon to function. In addition, the current President can be appointed and serve the remainder of the term if the NAC's next meeting takes place between the next two annual general meetings, as is now the case. In such cases, the President assumes the duties of the incumbent Chair when the President appoints the Chair, with the Chair assuming the responsibilities for a year.
