In the event of a conflict of enrollment between a school or a school district and a parent, the school must obtain authorization from the parent, or a representative, before enrolling the student in the course in question. A student is only considered eligible to enrol a compulsory course while receiving enrollment and/or tuition assistance approved under applicable rules or regulations under the Education Act. A student is only considered to be completing a course towards a degree program or qualification while on a degree or diploma. For example, if a student has successfully completed all compulsory school coursework in Grade 7, and would like to continue to study at a post-secondary institution, but not meet degree requirements, the student does not qualify to enrol, because the student is required to complete a minimum of 36 months (4 credit) towards a post-secondary education diploma. If a student has completed Grade 7 or has a Grade 8 diploma or a post-secondary degree such as a Certificate, he/she will continue to be enrolled in a regular course only. The student must have earned a minimum of 30 credits in all post-secondary courses they are enrolled in for their diploma/degree to be recognized. If a student decides to stop attending the school and subsequently withdraws from their course, the requirements relating to the student's continued attendance and/or continuation in the program would have to be fulfilled. This means that the student would be eligible to apply for financial assistance and for the student to still be enrolled in the course and receiving tuition assistance as previously stated.
