The bill would fund water projects through appropriations of up to 40 million annually through FY 2006. This legislation will focus on water quality projects in all 58 states along the upper Great Lakes and other waters in the Upper Midwest. This legislation is supported by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, the Great Lakes Interagency Council on Wildlife, the American Association of State Water Directors, and the Center for Watershed Sciences, all of which have helped to organize the hearings on this legislation. This legislation has been co-sponsored in the House by Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA-2) and Representative Adolphus Towns (D-NY-22), and in the Senate by Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Allen Specter (D-PA). The Committee's consideration of this bill is now complete. This legislation had a hearing on July 19, 2005, and has been referred to the Subcommittee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions of the Committee on Health.
