The Mechanics of a Regulated Economy in The World Bank's World Development Report, , by A. M. Pinto (Oxford Univ Press) The World Bank World Development Report,, provides a comprehensive history of economic progress and the development of the world economy. Each year, the World Bank summarizes progress made in the previous year, examines the outlook for the coming year, and analyzes the possible future performance of countries and of their major economies. The first issue,, described the outlook for ; the second issued in provided perspective on the 1990s and the prospects for the coming decade. Most World Bank publications feature a wide range of data products in addition to the statistical graphics in the text. In, an additional five issues were released that included an analysis of the 1994 World Economic Outlook, the 1995 and 1996 World Economic Prospects, and the 1997 World Economic Report. The World Bank's World Development Reports have been published since 1945 under the aegis of the United Nations, following the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development's model of responsible economic development. The World Development Reports have covered a wide range of subject areas, including agriculture, rural and urban development and natural resource use, the environment and climate change, global health, economic and financial development, economic and monetary policy, agriculture, food and agriculture, international financial institutions, and trade. These topics span many industries and are of considerable interest to everyone interested in human development and human progress, including those economists interested in the theory of economic development, social scientists interested in understanding the dynamics of development, and political scientists interested in international development issues. Recent World Bank developments include the World Development Report-3, 1991, which examined the outlook for developing to high-income countries in 1991; and the World Development Report-4, 1992, which showed that some of the problems that had led to poor performance in 1990 are beginning to be fixed. The World Development Report-6, 1997, was the tenth World Development Report and showed progress in several of the areas under study (see the first five World Development Reports to learn more about the report).
