2. Bulk Copies of RIR s WHOPS 3.3. Bulk Copies of NIR s WHOPS 3.4. Local Copies of RIR s WHOPS 3.5. Local Copies of NIR s WHOPS In Section 3.2 of the Baker s Volume of Reference: AKIN s WHOPS, there is a list of Internet registries that are approved for use with the WHOOP. AKIN s WHOPS are a method for creating local copies of Internet registries based on the RIR s Whoops. AKIN s WHOPS are provided to you in this volume of Reference and are listed separately from all other WHOOP s within it. A WHOOP is a name of an Internet registry in the RIR s Whoops. The WHOOP contains all the information the operator is entitled to know about the registry including whether the registry itself was created in a WHOOP. It also contains other information available from NIR s Whoops (and even from the Registry itself). The WHOOP is managed by the Internet Registry Operators Group (GROW). Note: There are two separate WHOPP's for all the Internet registries. The RIR s Whoops are the registry names, whereas the Internet Registry Operators Group (GROW) Whoops are the Internet registry servers that can be used to create local copies of the registry. Note also: The Whoops are not necessarily in the same geographic area. For example, the RIR s Whoops might be hosted by multiple ISPs/VPS providers, but the Internet Registry Operators Group (GROW) Whoops might be hosted by one company that is geographically located anywhere (and therefore has to meet any local security or reliability limits). 2.1. Internet Registry (IR) AKIN s Whoops come in three flavors: (1) The default WHOOP for the Internet is a local copy of the registry of the Internet itself. The registry must be on a computer that has a valid Internet connection (and it must have enough resources to run the program). For example, the Internet Registry (Greg), created by ICANN, is a local copy of the registry in the WHOPS. (This is the default WHOOP of the Internet.
