This will only be an exception if your contestant doesn't know how to play any of these instruments. Music must have a theme. Entries with more than 10 minutes of music must submit a separate piece of music. For more information on rules see the following: Music Guidelines for PG Audiences : A. General Guidelines. Each contestant must accompany themselves with an instrument or sing from a CD or videotape that was created for the event. All entries must have a theme. The theme, whether it be classical, popular, country, rock or whatever, will determine the style(s) for the entire show. If a contestant is selected, we will send a song selection form to the appropriate contestant as soon as possible. The song submissions will be required by 4H Events. The judge's decision will be made after viewing the entire music submission. B. Singing Style and Arrangement. Entries must have a singing style and song arrangement that fits the purpose of the show. Singing styles are limited to “sing-a-longs” (10-20 seconds) or “singalongs.” Entries with a higher reading frequency are acceptable if an appropriate song, with a good arrangement in mind, is also submitted. There are no length limits on the songs, as long as they match the theme. C. Song Selection. If the judge deems it appropriate, the contestant must accompany themselves on stage with the required musical instrument while singing a version of the music you have selected for the contest. Singing a song with a low or average reading frequency (less than 40 minutes of music in the last 90 days) will not be accepted as the appropriate music on that show. Contestants must have a CD or DVD containing the music selected by the judge. All entries shall be reviewed by the judges as follows: 1. Song Selection Reviewer(s). One of the contest Judges will review the selection for a period of time between 30 minutes and a minimum of 1 hour. It is the judge's responsibility to ensure the submission looks appropriate (i.e., does not have inappropriate lyrics and/or song arrangements, etc.) and it is the judge's responsibility to ensure that appropriate music is selected. 2. Song Selection Reviewer(s). One of the Contest Judge(s) will then compare the entries to the theme song.
