It is intended to demonstrate the use of laser-pulse focused heating and fission to ignite primary fission by the high density, hot-gas irradiation of a low-enriched core assembly. The initial design uses laser-pulse focusing (the heat from a laser pulse traveling through the plasmon laser field is focused on the nuclear fuel) to drive the fusion reactions. The low-enriched fuel assembly is then ignited either by a laser or fission of the hot-gas plasmon energy to a moderate degree. The fusion reactions then generate a moderate level of thermal output, and thus heat to drive an arc-pulse laser to heat an inert gas such as hydrogen. The arc-pulse laser then heats the plasma to sufficient temperatures to ignite a fission chain reaction.
