Key topics to be discussed include: system design and performance criteria, grid requirements and systems performance assessment; the installation process; system integration, key performance parameters, and safety considerations. The audience will be given a brief summary of NNSA's policies and oversight procedures. 3.90-5.50: system performance and grid performance for specific test scenarios. After demonstration of energy storage (or a combination of energy and thermal storage), the audience will be asked for input for improving the system performance and the grid to make it more economical. 5.60-6.70: summary of participants' overall assessment of the system, the main points of agreement, or objections, and questions for each. Next 45 minutes: a technical demonstration of energy storage with HERS from a NNSA facility. Following completion of this demonstration, the audience will be asked for input on how to proceed with further system and grid system performance assessment and system design and performance evaluation. 6.90-9.20: a brief overview of the program objectives, including the need for a demonstration that will demonstrate the potential of the grid for using alternative power resources; the need for a demonstration of the system's performance, including grid stability and reliability; the potential for system demonstration to create a benchmark for other R&D projects across the DOE portfolio; and the importance of this program for the future of U.S. energy security. 6.70-9.10: summary of participant views on key NNSA grid and system performance objectives; participant questions; and a closing discussion. A session director or other technical expert will be positioned to assist in the discussion. Session Outline Second 40 minutes: a brief overview of the system's components and key materials, major manufacturing processes and key technologies; and key applications, including water, heat, and water desalination. Key topics to be discussed include: system design and validation considerations, grid and system performance assessment criteria and grid operations; key performance parameters and key performance characteristics, including HERS; key materials to be utilized; system performance and grid performance criteria and system performance evaluation; the installation process and installation safety considerations; safety considerations for the grid to be demonstrated; and system testing procedure and key performance parameters.
