For this paper, we refer to this as the microturbine as we will only use this term for the foreseeable future. As the small, ultra-ultra low emission (MLLE) power trains approach their commercial phase of development, they will have many challenges to overcome, and we expect them to be at the very least much complex to produce than the conventional larger conventional power trains. The need to manage power and energy production and to make them fit together very tightly is part of the challenge of all the other problems of design, construction and, crucially, the cost management. The microturbine represents a particularly interesting design issue — it has no reciprocating or gearbox and all of its mechanical work is done by the turbine in a series configuration. This has certain advantages in terms of cost and complexity, for example: it requires a complex and lightweight powertrain system that combines the efficiency and efficiency of a conventional power transmission system with the capacity to operate under load. There is no conventional drivetrain component that goes between drive and brake, there is no clutch. At the moment of operation, when the train drives forwards, a very high speed turbine starts spinning and generates energy for use immediately thereafter. At other times, when the train decelerates, the turbine is still generating electricity, and therefore it is only necessary to control the turbine, not both the drive and braking actions combined.
