What's up guys this is my cashew this is the brute strength podcast I'm here with Rob MacDonald Rob has been the GM and training director at Jim Jones in Salt Lake City for seven years before that he was a professional fighter for year and fought in the UFC as well some of you may know that Rob trained us meaning hacks pack for three or four years including the two years that we won the game so I'm excited to to have him share with you some of the techniques he used with us and what he does with NFL athletes I close all that kind of stuff how you doing man good thanks for having me here Robert what's that I'm honored it's good to be here good to have you ma'am um so first off when I when your name pops into my head the first thing I think is hard work where and not necessarily just work more more more but when you're when you're sitting down to work whether it be you're writing a program or your training etc you're you're giving all of your effort right where does that come from you know I think the biggest thing for me was I was never an athlete I was never good at sports you know so when you look at my life growing up I didn't play on the basketball team I couldn't make the football team I wasn't really good at anything and I found wrestling and where I'm from wrestling's one of those sports where you don't choose to do wrestling you kind of do wrestling if you can't do anything else and that's where I found myself so in grade ten I started wrestling I was terrible I lost every single match grade 11 I won one match grade 12 I started to win more than I lost and in Ontario we actually have great 13 can then I would start winning to do it really well and a lot of that wasn't based on athletic talent because I don't really have any athletic talent you know when you look at somebody that's an athlete you play football so you understand people that sprint run jump there are some incredible athletes there was a guy at the combine this year that did a 12-foot broad jump I will never have that in the tank and I've never been capable of anything like that so everything that I had I think was based you know everything that I earned was just based off showing up and working hard right and that kind of has always stuck with me in that regard building something from nothing essentially and I really now have this heartfelt belief that you could be good at anything if you just work harder right I couldn't agree more man and I think a lot of people they see someone like you that super fit or somebody super successful maybe a CEO even and they they see the end result and they think I'll never get there because I'm come way down here but it seems like it's just a matter of time right well it's a matter of time but it's also you know and I'll use a couple of people as an example you know if you actually one person as an example if I said Michael Phelps is a talented swimmer your answer would be yes of course I look at it from a different perspective for 15 years...
