During the year ended December 31, 2004 (December 31, 2003, to December 31, 2004), the Hinton County District Board of Health met 3 times and had a regular meeting on the first Tuesday of each month but on both days it met at 10 a.m. for a 5-1/2-hour regular meeting. On December 12, 2005, the Board of Health met on January 4 and 6, but each of those special meetings lasted longer, 5 hours and 30 minutes. During the year ended December 31, 2004, 12 of the 12 regular meetings were held at 5:30 p.m. The remainder of the meetings were held at 8:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month or at 8:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. There was no meeting on December 12, 2005. On December 12, 2005, it was the intention of the board to elect 12 members of the Hinton County Board of Health for the following year starting February 1, 2006. There were to be three alternates. It is not our practice to make a selection by the end of the year and then immediately open up the nomination process to allow the public to have their say. We do it in order to assure that after the new member has been elected, the Board will continue to meet at it's designated meeting place on the third Tuesday of the month rather than having to reconvene each month. That is because the next year will see the beginning of a new term which will allow the Board to appoint a new member of the Board of Health at a special meeting. It will also mean that we will have no members of the Board of Health to choose from. The term of each person elected to the next year's Board of Health was to end on December 31, 2012 (December 31, 2005, by law). On March 15, 2006, the term of all elected members except one was to end at the same time. On November 14, 2008, the term of that one person was to end at the end of the year. However, with the beginning of the 2 school year, the term was extended on December 5, 2009, by the Ohio General Assembly to January 31, 2010 (December 31, 2008).
