The program will consist of two divisions-a Top-50 division, and a Lower 50 (under 50) division. Teams are made up of three or four skaters and three or four coaches. The first-year U.S. Figure Skating Scholar (formerly known as the U.S. Scholar Team) will compete on the Upper 50 team; this is a team that includes all skaters who entered the team in 2010. Each team will have a U.S. Figure Skating Scholar who skates all four years of high school while pursuing their double major in math and the sciences (typically biology). Skaters who have earned a 2.0 GPA for the year are not eligible for the program-they will be paired down in points for the second year. The Top-50 team will consist of the teams below, in descending position, and skaters who earned honors in the 2010 World Championships-see “World Championships, National Teams and Program Directors”. Teams are limited to 12 skaters each year. The Second Year Scholar Team will go on to compete in the National Championships. The top performers from the U.S. Scholar Team in 2010 and the top performers from the teams made up of first-year U.S. Scholar skaters are chosen for the Top-50 division. The rankings for the Under-50 division are announced later. Applications can be submitted at: We thank each of you for your interest in being considered for the program and your commitment to excellence for both the sport of figure skating and the classroom. Warmest regards, J.W. Benson U.S.
