Another major initiative is to train tribal health care professionals to provide outreach services. A new resource will be available for tribal citizens. Also, the tribal government and Choctaw Nation Finance Corporation will work with Native American organizations to distribute information about the disease. The Choctaw Nation is proud to be the first tribe in Oklahoma to have been certified by the Indian Health Service to provide Indian health care. The Choctaw Nation has established the Choctaw Health Resource Center for American Indians, where all tribal citizens and health care professionals can obtain medical information. Many people in Choctaw Nation live within a one-mile radius of a health center and many of them need an urgent medical care consultation, such as a prescription, that cannot be handled at a tribal health center.
