Economy up. Unemployment not too high Business Outlook, The Business Outlook Section, with a circulation of some 20,000, is the official business and trade handbook for the Administration. It is also the authoritative source for business news and the weekly Business-Ticker and has served as the official publication of the President's Trade Advisory Committee. The first Business Review was published October 16, 1960, by the Department of Commerce, and has since then been an extension editor of this bulletin. From the start, the purpose has been to assist in the planning of federal economic programs, to publish an up-to-date analysis of the business situation and of federal economic policy, and in developing a strong editorial editorial editorial policy. The paper is prepared exclusively for the use of the business executive and the official to whom it is to be communicated. As one of the primary editorial functions of the Business Update is to discuss and to evaluate Federal economic policy, the publication is a means to disseminate information necessary to such policymaking and to determine where programs have or need to be improved. In addition to the News section of the Business Review which is published weekly and at other times, the Business Update (p. 16) also has its own News section, containing news bulletins, commentary, and information with reference to the various parts of the Bulletin. The Business Update also provides in-depth statistical information on business activity, which is published on a semiannual basis. The Annual Business Report of 1962 (p. 27) contains data on business, production and employment data and on the business outlook. For the past several years the Business Update has also included a statistical section which provides annual data on the number of firms, the number of persons employed, the number of transactions, transactions volume and the value of transactions. The Business Update also makes available statistical data on trade among countries. The Statistical data on Foreign Trade which are of special significance to the government and the private sector are published in the Statistical and Economic Outlook of the U.S. Economy (p. 6). A weekly Economic Calendar is also prepared and is available through interagency offices and the Trade Section of the Business Analysis Section. The Economic Calendar provides a complete summary of the current economic situation as reported in Business Review and the Business Outlook. In addition, it contains information on the Federal Budget, unemployment statistics, the stock market reports, and the quarterly statements of financial status of the United States Government. It is the business correspondent of the Government Accounting Office.
