Storm We would first like to thank the members for the excellent work they have done. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience to be a part of it. Although the research has certainly been in all respects a success, we have many reservations as to the results of our study. There are a great many problems confronting us in attempting to find the optimal balance between the physician's role as primary provider of care, as expressed in the AOA code, and the nurse's involvement. As we stated at the end of our preliminary report, there are very few studies to support the position of a nursing caregiver's being better. Our study showed that many nursing students and residents are not getting the support they need to become a competent, competent caregiver; their attitudes of support and acceptance of it are simply not as good. Also, it can be stated that as the number of nursing students and residents grows, and in the absence of a professional nursing care worker-support for this critical professional group will decline. In the past, the support of the nurse in care provided for them was considered to be essential to their development in the field for their ability to be properly successful to achieve professional competence. This is not the case today in many instances. This situation is in direct contradiction to the role that most nursing schools have taught and instilled to all their nursing students and residents. In the interest of our community, we feel further study is needed into the issues involved to aid in the support and acceptance of care in our community by our population at large. We also feel that this kind of “researching” has relevance to the needs of the current nursing workforce. Our goal as educators is to provide education for all of our students to become all that they can be capable of being to become an effective, effective nurse. The purpose of this investigation is to help us in those endeavors. We believe in the necessity of continuing to provide education to all of our students. We also hope that this educational finding will assist in the education of our nursing workforce and be helpful to them in their careers as well. Furthermore, we also hope the results of the study may assist in the education of healthcare professionals who are supporting caregivers, as the physician would. The research has clearly demonstrated a greater need for professional training in nursing regarding the nursing caregiver role.
