How do you display a postage stamp?
Measure and lightly mark the points on the mat board where the stamps will be affixed. Place the stamps in individual stamp mount sleeves. Wet the adhesive backing on the back of the stamp mounts and stick them in place. Insert the mat board into the frame behind the matting, and replace the backing on the frame.
How do you handle old stamps?
Always keep your stamps in a stamp album or stock book or other clean container designed to protect stamps. Stamps can get easily bent, torn, or soiled, so you should keep them safe. You should also use stamp collecting equipment when examining or handling your stamps.
Are used stamps worth anything?
Yes. Used stamps have a value as a collectible even if they can not be used again in mailing letters. Most philatelists assemble a cancelled stamp collection because they are more rewarding to collect that the mint stamps. The value of recycled used stamps increases according to its rarity and beauty.
What makes a stamp collection valuable?
The rarer the stamp, the higher the value. Some stamp collectors even say that rarity is the single most important factor in determining stamp value, more than condition or age. The 1861 1-cent Benjamin Franklin stamps, for example, aren't very valuable because about 150 million of them were produced.
Are stamp collections worth any money?
Most non-collectors believe that stamp collections are very valuable, and are the ticket to that round-the-world cruise. Unfortunately, we live in the real world, where many collections are worth no more than a few hundred dollars. Some are worth several hundred dollars, or perhaps a few thousand.
How do I know if my stamps are valuable?
Identify the stamp. Find out when was the stamp issued. Know the stamp's age and material used. Determine the centering of the design. Check the stamp's gum. Determine the condition of the perforations. See if the stamp has been cancelled or not. Find out the rarity of the stamp.
