Why does my title say void?
Titles are legal documents, meaning that you may void your title and need to obtain a duplicate copy from the DMV if you fill anything out incorrectly. Because no one wants another reason to wait at the DMV, it's important to do your research before filling out or signing your car title.
What does a void car title mean?
If your state requires a notarized signature on your vehicle title, do not sign the document until you are in the presence of a notary. This may void your title, meaning you have to obtain a duplicate copy.
What happens if you make a mistake on a car title?
If this occurs, a duplicate title must be obtained by the current owner and the incorrect title should be enclosed with your request. Any corrections due to the misspelling of information may be corrected by drawing a line through the incorrect information and inserting the correct information.
Does a duplicate title void the original?
A duplicate will not be issued if the whereabouts of the original title is known, but not readily available. “DUPLICATE” is printed at the top of a replacement California Certificate of Title and the original is invalid.
Can you cross out name on title?
Can I cross it off and write over it or use the next section? No, if you do this your title will become void. Unless you are a licensed dealer, you must transfer the title into your name. Once a title is issued in your name we can then proceed with your donation.
Are you supposed to sign your title?
Most states require that you have a clear title to the vehicle. Some states also require a notarized signature to complete the transfer. If you cannot locate or have lost the certificate of title, we can help guide you in the right direction of how to obtain a duplicate title.
What does a void title mean?
Void Title: If a buyer unknowingly purchases goods from a seller who is not the owner of the goods, the buyer's title to the goods is void, as was the seller's title before the sale.
What do I look for on a car title?
Each time a title is issued by the state, a copy is kept of the old title and the new title, recording each owner and change in ownership over the life of a car. The Title contains a description of the car, the Vehicle Identification Number and details of the owner: name and address and so forth.
