A prerequisite means a course or other requirement that a student must have taken prior to enrolling in a specific course or program. A corequisite means a course or other requirement that a student must take at the same time as another course or requirement.
What is the difference between a prerequisite course and a recommended course?
Completion of the prerequisite is required prior to enrolling in the course. “Recommended Preparation” means a condition of enrollment that a student is advised, but not required, to meet before or in conjunction with enrollment in a course or educational program.
Can you take a course without the prerequisite?
If you do not meet these prerequisite levels, you must complete the courses required to reach the prerequisite levels before you will be permitted to register for general education courses. The override of a prerequisite can only be given by the instructor teaching the section of the course you are trying to get into.
