Personal Sworn Statement Sample - Page 2
What Is a Sworn Statement?
A sworn statement is a common process in jurisprudence. It has several names and can be called a declaration and a statement under penalty of perjury. The last one reveals the essence of the document the best. The person that fills the declaration must fill it out honestly and without providing false information. Issues raised in this document can be connected to almost anything. From witnessing the facts about the person to information about some events, seen or participated by the person.
This declaration can look like an affidavit, but there are some differences among them. Firstly, a statement does not require an additional witness and seal by an official. Secondly, the person who fills the affidavit is an "affiant" and the person who fills the declaration is a "declarant". Despite these little differences, both documents are equally accepted by the court.
Writing Requirements and Responsibilities After Sworn Statements
The main rule of writing a declaration is to create a numbered list of facts that you have to certify. You must add a sentence that this statement is sworn at the end of your document. Add also note that all written information is true, correct, has been made under penalty of perjury and sign it. The language of the document should be only official, without using slang and jargon.
If it is said that something is sworn, said or written under oath, then the document can be called a sworn declaration. There must be an approval from the notary. Do not lie in this document. The law says that perjury is a felony and provides a prison sentence of up to 5 years.
