You are encouraged to check your VHF radio by calling the station in your area. When you transmit on its channel, you will hear a recorded response and then hear a playback of your voice verifying that your radio is transmitting, modulating and receiving.
A plain-language radio check is the means of requesting and giving a signal strength and readability report for radiotelephone (voice) communications, and is the direct equivalent to the USA and QRK code used to give the same report in radiotelegraph (Morse code) communications.
radio: Uses of Radio Waves. The prime purpose of radio is to convey information from one place to another through the intervening media (i.e., air, space, nonconducting materials) without wires. Besides being used for transmitting sound and television signals, radio is used for the transmission of data in coded form.
Transmission Of Radio Waves. The radio wave that leaves a transmitting antenna originates as a sound spoken into a microphone. The current is then transmitted to an antenna, where the varying electrical field associated with the current initiates an electromagnetic wave in the air around the antenna.

There were times when he was the real Roger that everybody knows. 11 : 42 : 34 Origel to tower : Roger that. We've told Roger that, and he told us that he wanted the same thing.
Before voice communication, pilots used Morse code and instead of tapping out that a message was received they used shorthand and just tapped out r (short long short). But just saying r could lead to communication errors. So they took Roger from the U.S. phonetic alphabet.
In the previously used US spelling alphabet, R was Roger, which in radio voice procedure means “Received". In the US military, it is common to reply to another's assertion with “Roger that", meaning: "I agree".
Response to “Radio Check". Means your transmission signal is good. Also, use “Read you 5-by-5". You are asking the other party to acknowledge they hear you.
