You don't compile the header file, you just include it from your source file. It's like if you copied its content in the C source code. But of course things are usually more complicated than that. Programs are made of multiple source files compiled into objects files (.o) and libraries.
Each C++ source file needs to be compiled into an object file. A C++ source file can include other files, known as header files, with the #include directive. Header files have extensions like. H,.
Provided that a library function can be declared without reference to any type defined in a header, it is also permissible to declare the function and use it without including its associated header. Your program is thus valid input to anything that advertises itself as compatible with the C programming language.
Header files contain definitions of Functions and Variables, which is imported or used into any C++ program by using the preprocessor #include statement. H” which contains C++ function declaration and macro definition. Each header file contains information (or declarations) for a particular group of functions.
Header files are included by the preprocessor into the compilation unit — CPP file. Only the source code in the CPP file is compiled by compiler after that. When you put your function definition into the header. Cpp and compiler doesn't compile it as preprocessor doesn't include it in main.
h extension), then no, there's no reason to “compile” these header files independently. Header files are intended to be included into implementation files, not fed to the compiler as independent translation units. C file consisting only of #include “hello. H” directive, and feeding that dummy.
If the header guard strictly conforms to the pattern that compilers expect, then inclusions of that header other than the first have absolutely no effect: the file isn't re-read from disk, nor is it re-tokenised or re-preprocessed. This can result in a noticeable, albeit minor, improvement to compilation time.
The creation of header files are needed generally while writing large C programs so that the modules can share the function definitions, prototypes etc. Function and type declarations, global variables, structure declarations and in some cases, inline functions. Definitions which need to be centralized in one file.
