If you cannot locate your original tenancy lease, simply ask your landlord or rental management agency to send you a copy for your records. Once each calendar year, at your request, your landlord or rental agency must provide you with a copy of your lease within 15 days of the request under California Civil Code 1962.
In general, your landlord is not legally required to provide you a copy of the lease. In other words, when someone asks a landlord for a copy of the lease, either it's an attempt to break the lease, or it's an attempt to avoid a rules' enforcement.
Not only is the person or company you signed the lease with the most likely to have a copy for themselves, many states legally require landlords to provide tenants a copy of the lease. Provide a copy of the rental agreement or lease to the tenant within 15 days of its execution by the tenant.
