How long is an inmate in reception?
reception is supposed to be 30 days but like California sunshine said. it is typically at least 90 days now.
What does it mean when a prisoner is in reception?
Prisoners at the Reception Center are on quarantine status, meaning they cannot receive visits from friends or family. These prisoners can receive visits from qualified clergy, the Office of the Legislative Ombudsman, and attorneys on official business.
How long do Inmates stay in reception in California?
It's not true that they are moved after 30 days no phone or contact visits as long as they are in reception. The only exception is inmates with disabilities who remain in the reception center more than 60 days due to their disability are allowed contact visits after 60 days.
Why would they transfer an inmate?
Prisoners may be transferred from one prison to another for a number of reasons. So that they can serve the final weeks of their sentence in a prison nearer their home. The prisoner's sentence plan requires them to complete a course which is not available at the prison they are in. They are behaving in a disruptive way.

Can you look up federal inmates?
You can search the Federal Bureau of Prisoners for federal inmates in all 50 states. We are unable to help one on one with locating prisoners. All information is made available here in our Federal Inmate Prisoner Locator section.
How do I look up an inmate's release date?
If you know that the inmate is serving time in a federal prison, you can go to www.bop.gov. They have a Find an Inmate area where you can easily locate an inmate that is currently being held in a federal prison. You will be able to search using an inmate's BOP number, FBI number or name.
How do I find a former inmate?
The easiest way to do a nationwide inmate search to locate which prison an inmate is located at (or where they were held before release), is to search for the person using the Find an Inmate search tool on Bop.gov. It works for any offender incarcerated from 1982 to present day.
