For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) does not accredit institutions. Rather, it determines which accrediting agencies receive recognition by the Department. This means that the standards of the accrediting agencies are up to par to the standards of the DOE.
Search the U.S. Department of Education Database. Within the website for the United States Department of Education, there is a Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs. Check the Six Main Regional Accrediting Agencies. Contact the Online College or University Directly.
Accredited colleges in the US meet standards established by private agencies. It means that the college can operate as a business in that state. Accredited colleges in the US meet the standards of a recognized reviewing agency. Accrediting agencies are private educational associations recognized by the government.
If you are unsure whether a college or university is regionally or nationally accredited, you can look up their current accreditation status on the U.S. Department of Education's online database (USE).
It seems like universities are generally counted together with colleges. So here is the answer from the Association of American Colleges and Universities. It says there are two thousand six hundred eighteen accredited four-year colleges and universities. Most operate privately or as part of state governments.
In order for accreditation to have any meaning, it is important that your online college's accrediting agency be recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEAP) or the U.S. Department of Education. Essentially, the accrediting agency itself needs to be accredited.
There are several reasons accreditation is important besides insurance of quality and adherence to academic standards. Accreditation determines a school's eligibility for participation in federal (Title IV) and state financial aid programs, as well as eligibility for employer tuition assistance.
Plain and simple, regional accreditation is not the same as national accreditation. The main difference between the two is that credits earned from institutions that are regionally accredited are more widely accepted and thus more easily transferable.
