All charts in Excel have a chart area, which encloses all elements of the chart. The easiest way to select the chart area is to click just below the top edge of the chart. The Chart Elements menu on the Format tab of the ribbon, and the Format Task pane title will confirm the chart area is selected.
Charts have labels that show the values of specific data points. You can choose a format for them (for example, number, currency, or percentage), change where they appear, and more. Click the chart, then, in the Format sidebar, click the Series tab.
Alternatively, to format trendlines in Excel charts, you can also right-click the trendline to format within the actual chart. Then select the Format Trendline command from the pop-up menu that appears. Using either method then displays the Format Trendline task pane at the right side of the screen.
