For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Images on screen are made of colored squares called pixels. Ideal screen image resolution (detail an image holds) is 72 pixels per inch. If an image is less than 72ppi, it will appear fuzzy (what we call pixelated).
Resolution for web images: Left over from the world of print, resolution is the quality or density of an image, measured in dots per inch (dpi). A professional printer might require images to be at least 300dpi.
Hi-res images are at least 300 pixels per inch (PPI). This resolution makes for good print quality, and is pretty much a requirement for anything that you want hard copies of, especially to represent your brand or other important printed materials.
PNG-8 means 8 bits, so 256 colors maximum.
The generally accepted value is 300 pixels/inch. Printing an image at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch squeezes the pixels in close enough together to keep everything looking sharp. In fact, 300 is usually a bit more than you need.
For a 20" x 30" print, the image resolution should be 1600 × 1200 pixels minimum. For a Wallet-size print, the image resolution should be 320 × 240 pixels minimum. This guide shows you the kind of quality you can expect when you're printing out your photos.
Keep in mind though the 200 PPI = photo quality concept, a minimum of 200 dpi should be used in scanning. Best results for paper photos are generally achieved within a range of 300 dpi (sufficient for most photos) to 600 dpi (if you want to enlarge the image).
Most people are happy with 150 image dots per printed inch while a professional would want 300 image dots per printed inch. If you are thinking of printing 4×6 shots, you would need are resolution of at least 600×900 at 150 Image dots/inch or 1200×1800 at 300 Image dots/ inch.
It all depends on the viewing distance, but if the printer service (e.g. A&I) wants 200 or 300 or 400 dpi then you'll have to enlarge the image beyond 3776 × 2832 pixels. Either enlarge the image file to play it safe, or ask the client what the minimum viewing distance will be and then take it from there.
