To conduct the physical inventory count as quickly as possible, schedule a time when sales are slow and inventory levels are down. On a related note, complete a full zoning (recovery) or straightening of the store prior to the physical inventory, so all products are neat and orderly for easy counting.
Detailed physical inventory counts are a way of ensuring that a company's inventory management system is accurate and as a check to make sure goods are not being lost or stolen. A physical count of a company's entire inventory is generally taken prior to the issuance of a company's balance sheet.
A physical inventory count is the practice of counting your retail products in person. The process typically involves a retail staff member (or team of workers) going through the retailer' sales floor and stockroom and counting each item.
This creates an equilibrium for the time in-between, which could take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to a do a complete physical inventory count.

Taking a physical count of inventory? Use inventory scanners or other types of stock counting technologies. Choose your counters wisely. If you must do a full physical inventory count, schedule it ahead of time. Map your store.
Multiply the maximum lead time in weeks by the maximum usage per week. In the example, multiply three weeks by 200 units, to arrive at a minimum inventory level of 600 units. This means that in high season, you'll place an order for more stock when inventory falls to 600 units.
Divide the cost of goods sold by the average inventory to calculate your inventory turnover rate. For example, if the cost of goods sold for the period is $75,000 and your average inventory is $25,000, you have $75,000 divided by $25,000 for an inventory turnover rate of 3.0.
