Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
By using the first three numbers of anyone's SSN, you can often tell in which State they were born, or at the least, one of the States where they once lived.
A Social Security number (SSN) is a nine-digit number that the U.S. government issues to all U.S. citizens and eligible U.S. residents who apply for one. The government uses this number to keep track of your lifetime earnings and the number of years worked.
No valid SSN has 9 identical digits or has the 9 digits running consecutively from 1-9. For example, all the following SSNs are invalid: 111-11-1111. 999-99-9999.
Texas Social Security Numbers Social Security Numbers issued to Texas fall between 449-##-#### and 645-##-####.
The first three digits of the Social Security number corresponded to the location of the Social Security office that issued the number. The middle two numbers in the Social Security number made up the group number, which reflects the order in which the SSA assigned Social Security numbers to new applicants.
The Social Security Administration does not reuse Social Security numbers. It has issued over 450 million since the start of the program, and at a use rate of about 5.5 million per year. It says it has enough to last several generations without reuse or changing the number of digits.
Social security numbers (SSNs) are not random numbers. They are assigned regionally and in batches. Area numbers — The first three numbers originally represented the state in which a person first applied for a social security card. Numbers started in the northeast and moved westward.
Decode Social Security Number. The nine-digit Social Security Number is broken into 3 parts — the Area, Group, and Series. The Area number is the first three digits of a Social Security Number, the Group number is the middle two digits and the Series number is the final four digits.
The first three digits are known as the “area number". Until June 25, 2011, this is generally the State or territory where your SSN was assigned. The second two numbers are known as the "group numbers". The third set of four numbers is simply the numerical sequence of digits 0001 to 9999 issued within each group.
The more your number is out there, the greater the risk of identity theft. Guard the Final Four. Although most widely used and shared, the last four digits are in fact the most important to protect. These are truly random and unique; the first five numbers represent when and where your Social Security card was issued.
The best we can say with certainty is that the first SSN was issued sometime in mid-November 1936. In any case, on whatever day the first card was issued, hundreds of thousands of SSNs were probably issued on that same day, so many people had Social Security cards issued on the very first day they became available.
The overwhelming majority of live human births, internationally, each year, has no connection to the US, the SSA or the nine-digit social security number.
European Social Security Number. All official European Union website addresses are in the Europa.eu domain.
The use of the Social Security number (SSN ) has expanded significantly since its inception in 1936. Created merely to keep track of the earnings history of U.S. workers for Social Security entitlement and benefit computation purposes, it has come to be used as a nearly universal identifier.
Activities that do not require a Social Security Number: Applying for a passport, driver's license or state ID. Registering to vote. Opening a bank account that does not generate income (like an interest-free checking account; otherwise, the bank will need an SSN or taxpayer identification number for tax purposes)
