The GDP consists of three stages identified by the type of license: learners permit, intermediate (provisional) license, and full license. The three stages of the GDP system include specific components and restrictions to introduce driving privileges gradually to new drivers.
The three license stages of GDP are: Learner (minimum nine months), Intermediate (minimum 15 months), Full (for the first three years).
Graduated Driver Licensing (GDP) programs allow young drivers to safely gain driving experience before obtaining full driving privileges. Most programs include three stages: Learner Stage: supervised driving, cumulating with a driving test; Intermediate Stage: limiting unsupervised driving in high risk situations; and.
Generally, the three stages of GDP are: Supervised learning period. A young driver, after passing a qualifying test, is granted a learner's permit. The new driver is allowed to drive only with a supervising adult in the car for a given period of time or minimum number of hours before earning an intermediate license.
Level 3 License: The Level 3 License is issued automatically to teen drivers who are at least 17 years old (with parental authorization*), held a Level 2 License for at least six months, and been crash- and violation-free during the prior 12 months.
After you have had your Level 2 license for at least six months, you may be eligible for your Level 3 full license. You must be at least 17 years old to get your Level 3 license.
Level 3 License: The Level 3 License is issued automatically to teen drivers who are at least 17 years old (with parental authorization*), held a Level 2 License for at least six months, and been crash- and violation-free during the prior 12 months.
Teens with a Level 1 license may only drive with a licensed parent/guardian or designated licensed adult age 21 or older.
