Open a file in Acrobat and choose Tools > Protect. Select whether you want to restrict editing with a password or encrypt the file with a certificate or password. Set password or security method as desired. Click OK and then click Save.
Folders can't be directly encrypted in macOS, but you can put them in password-protected containers. This has the effect of protecting your folders and the files they contain with a password. You can password-protect folders on macOS using the built-in Disk Utility application or a third-party tool called Encrypto.
Go to File -> Document Properties and select Security tab. Click Edit button to open the Change Document Security dialog. Un-check Allow Filling Form Fields & Signing. Check Password to Change Permissions checkbox and set the permission password.
In Disk Utility, go to File > New Image > Image from Folder Now, select the folder you want to password protect. You can save this new folder as anything you want. And after that, click Save. Click the padlock icon and select Lock Note. Click Set Password.
Check Advanced>Security>Show Security Properties for the list of what you can specifically restrict on an individual PDF. You can specifically Restrict 'Filling of Form Fields' on the PDF, and have the security model be a password.
Click the File menu and now hold down your Command key. The Duplicate option will change in to Save As, click that. Give the file a name (or keep the same name) and click the Encrypt box. Enter a password and save the file.
Right-click on the folder. Select Properties from the menu. On the dialog that appears, click the General tab. Click the Advanced button, then select Encrypt content to secure data.
