Folders can't be directly encrypted in macOS, but you can put them in password-protected containers. This has the effect of protecting your folders and the files they contain with a password. You can password-protect folders on macOS using the built-in Disk Utility application or a third-party tool called Encrypt.
One-click option to protect a PDF with a password Choose File > Protect Using Password. Alternatively, you can choose Tools > Protect > Protect Using Password. Select if you want to set the password for Viewing or Editing the PDF. Type and retype your password.
In Disk Utility, go to File > New Image > Image from Folder Now, select the folder you want to password protect. You can save this new folder as anything you want. And after that, click Save. Click the padlock icon and select Lock Note. Click Set Password.
