Complete the application. Pay the registration fee. Upload or deliver copies of the photographs being registered (eCO allows you to immediately upload digital copies of your photographs for the registration.)
Register photographs with the U.S. Copyright Office. Technically speaking, any photograph that you take automatically belongs to you for a minimum of 25 years. In practice, however, you will need to formally register your images if you want to bring a lawsuit for infringement of your US copyright.
Do-It-Yourself Copyright Registration Fill in the online form (between about 8 and 12 screens of information). Pay the government filing fee of $35 or $55 with your credit card. Upload a copy of your copyrighted work (many formats are supported; you can also mail it in if you really prefer that method).
The standard filing fee for electronic registration is $55 for basic claims. However, the filing fee is $35 if you register one work, not made for hire, and you are the only author and claimant. To access electronic registration, go to the Copyright Office's website at www.copyright.gov.
The limit is 750 photos per registration. Be sure that unpublished and published images are not combined in the same registration. Copyright holders can upload the images using a zip file, they do not have to be uploaded individually.

If you want to protect your artwork and photographs, you can register to copyright them. To copyright and protect your work, you must file each piece of artwork separately or as one group when filing for trademark and copyright protection. Visit the official copyright website at copyright.gov.
Make at least three copies of your picture: one for yourself and two to be used in your copyright registration application. ... Fill out the registration forms. ... Pay the registration fees and submit your forms. ... Protect your copyright by placing a copyright notice on your picture.
Patent: U.S. patent law defines something as patentable if it is a process, a machine, a manufactured article or a new composition, such as a newly-created pharmaceutical. ... However, some artwork, such as dress designs, fabric patterns, and jewelry, can be patented.
Copyright is a property right. Under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976, photographs are protected by copyright from the moment of creation. According to the U.S. Copyright Office, the owner of the work is generally the photographer or, in certain situations, the employer of the photographer.
