Here are the four most common ways of measuring reliability for any empirical method or metric: inter-rater reliability. Test-retest reliability. Parallel forms reliability.
Unfortunately, there is no way to directly observe or calculate the true score, so a variety of methods are used to estimate the reliability of a test. Some examples of the methods to estimate reliability include test-retest reliability, internal consistency reliability, and parallel-test reliability.
There are two types of reliability internal and external reliability. Internal reliability assesses the consistency of results across items within a test. External reliability refers to the extent to which a measure varies from one use to another.
Reliability refers to the consistency of a measure. Psychologists consider three types of consistency: over time (test-retest reliability), across items (internal consistency), and across different researchers (inter-rater reliability).
In simple terms, research reliability is the degree to which research method produces stable and consistent results. A specific measure is considered to be reliable if its application on the same object of measurement number of times produces the same results.
To measure interrater reliability, different researchers conduct the same measurement or observation on the same sample. Then you calculate the correlation between their different sets of results. If all the researchers give similar ratings, the test has high interrater reliability.
Inter-Rater Reliability. Test-Retest Reliability. Parallel Forms Reliability. Internal Consistency Reliability.
Correlate the test scores of the two administrations of the same test. Parallel Forms Reliability: Determines how comparable are two different versions of the same measure. To calculate: Administer the two tests to the same participants within a short period of time. Correlate the test scores of the two tests.
