For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
The IPF rule book lays out 6 rules for the powerlifting squat: You need to bend your knees and lower the body until the top surface of the leg (upper quad at the hip joint) is lower than the top of the knee (explained in more detail below) You need to have your knees locked at both the beginning and end of the movement.

Powerlifting Squat Technique. The wide stance, low bar squat reduces our range of motion, allows us to be more upright, emphasizes using the larger, stronger posterior chain over the quads, and it also allows us to manipulate our leverages to make the lift easier.
Powerlifting Weight Classes A weight class sport is one in which competitors are divided up into different divisions depending on how much they weigh. You cannot compete in any class where you are above the maximum weight and, likewise, you cannot compete in any class where you do not make the minimum weight.
A powerlifting total is your score which is the addition of your best squat, bench, and deadlift. If a person squats 400, benches 300, and deadlifts 500 their total is 1200 lbs.
What does Equip powerlifting mean? For all intents and purposes equipped lifting means that lifters are allowed to wear additional equipment that you wouldn't find being used at a Raw meet. Typically, you'll find gear such as squat suits or knee wraps.
Technically speaking, raw in the world of powerlifting means lifting with little to no additional equipment (lifting belts, bench shirts, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, etc.). The gear aids an athlete in lifting more weight and offers additional protection to the body.
A Powerlifting meet consists of 3 attempts of each of the three power lifts in order Squat Bench Press and Deadlift. Your total of your best lift from Squat Bench Press and Deadlift is added together to get your final score.
Powerlifting, often confused with Olympic lifting, is an individualized sport in which competitors attempt to lift as much weight as possible for one repetition in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Every lifter is allowed three attempts at each lift, making for a total of nine competition lifts throughout the day.
The sport of powerlifting involves more than just competing in the squat, bench press and deadlift -- you must also compete within a weight class. Weight classes remain basically the same for men and women, but women have lighter classes and men have heavier classes.
You should move up a weight class when you can no longer cut enough body weight (5-10%) while staying above your minimum competitive body fat threshold (8-12% BF) to make the weight class you are aiming to make. After about three to five years of training, you'll settle into more of a long term weight class.
As an example, the Class 1 threshold for 264.6+ men (i.e., 1660) means that 15% of ALL 264.6+ men (all ages) achieved a total of at least 1660.
At first glance, the most obvious difference is between the competition lifts. Weightlifting uses the snatch and the clean and jerk, both overhead movements. Powerlifting uses the squat, bench press, and deadlift, none of which is directed vertically overhead.
Generally lifting about 30-40% of the volume and intensity you usually lift with is a good idea. Definitely rest the 2-3 days right before a competition.
If you are competing on a different day allow three days of rest before your competition.
