Are post trips required by law?
Guidance: Section 396.11(a) requires every driver to prepare a DVR at the completion of each day's work on each vehicle operated. A driver who operates two or more vehicles in a 24-hour-period must prepare a DVR at the completion of the tour of duty in each vehicle.
When should I get post trip inspection?
Section 37.22 (6) states that drivers must complete a post-trip inspection of the vehicle at the end of the final trip of the day, or where a trip lasts more than one day, on every subsequent day of the trip at the final rest stop of the day.
Can you refuse a DOT inspection?
Yes, you can refuse to assist a DOT inspection. That's right, you can legally refuse a DOT inspection, but be prepared to lose your job and have no chance of finding another one. There are going to be consequences of your refusal to assist. No trucking company out there is going to want you driving their trucks.
Can DOT inspect trucks on private property?
There is only one way they can not bother you for an inspection and that is if you are on private property, and they do not have permission to start an inspection from that property's owner or manager. They can complete a stop however on private property with or without the owner's permission.

Currently, there are no guidelines as to how long a pre-trip inspection should take. If you check everything you should be checking, a full inspection should take you approximately 30 to 50 minutes.
